Stuff I’ve Been Doing

‘Cause I know you’re dying to know!

As usual, I have been all over the place doing strange and random things, many of which I should probably not mention on this public blog altogether.

Music-wise, I’ve been writing steadily, depending on how much coffee I’ve had on any given day. I also joined a new band, and we’ve been rehearsing a lot and coming up with some pretty ass-kicking songs, if I do say so myself. I’ve also been hard at work trying to finish this site for all the people that constantly email me asking me when it will be completed. Especially since they’re about to drop three new albums and then I will really be far behind. Okay, by hard at work I mean I spend like 2 solid hours on it a week. And yes, I do have other websites other than this one, and most of them are far less naked and neglected.

In other, super sad news, I heard yesterday that Tony Sly from No Use For a Name passed away. Absolutely shitty. I was like 17 when More Betterness came out and I used to play that record non-stop. I still do play it quite often, actually. Tony was one of my favorite songwriters. He had an incredible sense of melody. Although I never had the good fortune to meet him myself, I’m told he was a stand-up dude that everyone loved to be around. RIP, Tony Sly.

Me on Cougar Town

I know, pretty random. This is from Season 3, Episode 5, “A One Story Town.”

I will be taking Courtney Cox to court for her libelous and defamatory statements, of course.

Spotify and Soundtrack Newz

Hello dear friends.

So, I have heard through the e-grapevine that Cue the Clouds is finally available on Spotify…for those of you who are Spotifyifians. I read somewhere recently that for an artist to make the equivalent of a full-time minimum wage job from Spotify plays, they would need to have something like 4 million plays per month. But that’s assuming they have a record label robbing them blind. Folks like me who do it all on their own (and hardly anyone knows about!) only need a little over half a million plays to make that prestigious minimum wage. Isn’t that neat? Of course…that’s before taxes. Uhoh.

In other news, one or more tracks from Cue the Clouds will be featured in the upcoming film, The Boys of Abu Ghraib (title subject to change). It stars Sean Astin and Sara Paxton. When I know more about that I will surely use it as an excuse to make another blog post.

I know this site is in desperate need of some customizing. It is looking painfully default. As soon as I find time (video games have been a great priority as of late) I will surely work on a redesign and also adding more info for all seven of you to enjoy.

Bai for nao!

NAMM 2012

So, this past Saturday I went to the NAMM show in Anaheim with Seth. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically a big conference where gear companies showcase their new stuff. Every brand of guitars/drums/amps/mics/DJ equipment, etc is there. To be honest, it’s not really my scene (Seth is super into that sort of thing), but what the hell else do I have going on!?

Since a lot of these companies endorse famous musicians, it’s also a cool place to meet some of them. I can’t remember exactly everyone that was there, but I do recall Rob Halfred (Judas Priest!), Avenged Sevenfold, Joe Satriani, and Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses!). We didn’t bother harassing any of the above, but we did harass Eric Wilson from Sublime. How could we not? We even went as far as taking pictures with him. Look how excited Eric is to be taking this picture with me:

Then we went and got some $12 cheeseburgers and called it a day.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that on the way there, a giant deadly spider appeared in the car and tried to attack Seth, and I had to pull over to deal with it, and it was terrifying and all three of us almost died in a fiery crash.

PS Have you bought my new album yet? Cause I’m going through my records here and I don’t see your name. You can buy it here. Or on iTunes. Or pretty much anywhere that sells digital downloads. Bye!

Review of my own Show

It was great!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the Grand Annex in San Pedro this past weekend for the CD release show. It wouldn’t have been the same without you!

The album is now officially out, and it is polluting the internet as we speak. So far, it is available on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. There are also a limited number of physical copies for sale via CD Baby. Click here for more info.

By the way, the beautiful artwork was done by Jessica Nguyen. You can check out more of her creations here.

Here is a picture from the show that I chose because I look particularly ridiculous (/drunk/confused):

Jack Anthony and Seth Barnes at the Grand Annex

I also like it because Seth and I are apparently playing two different chords!

That photo was taken by Benji Samit…the same Benji Samit that directed the Averill Park music video way back when. Rumor has it we might be working on another music video together sometime soon. Don’t tell anyone, though. This is just between you and me. It’s too soon for this information to leak.

Album Release Party! Tickets Available Now

Hi! Sooooo the moment the world has been waiting for is upon us. The new album entitled “Cue the Clouds” will make it’s debut on December 17th, 2011. Why release an album on a Saturday when the music industry says that Tuesdays are reserved for such an occasion? Because that’s the date of the release party/show, of course.

The event is being held at the Warner Grand Annex in San Pedro, CA. The address is 434 W. 6th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. This will be an 18 and over event (sorry, youngins).

Other performers include Seth Barnes, Mike Crisis, and more!

If you want to buy tickets ahead of time, it’ll save you a whole dollar! Tickets will be $12 at the door, but if you buy them here, they’re only $11. What a deal!

Also, if you’re planning on attending the show and would like to pre-order the album, you can get both for only $19. That means the cd is only $8…wowzers. Use this silly paypal button to do so:

If you only want tickets, use this one:

Your name will be added to the list at the door. No need to mess with those disgruntled postal workers. If you purchased a CD as well, it will bestowed upon you at the door. If the show sells out before I have a chance to update this post, you will be refunded. And I will be super duper sad that you can’t go. I’ll probably play a private show for you in your bathroom to make up for it.

For those of you not in the So Cal area, don’t fret, the album will be available worldwide via iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, etc.

Okay, gotta finish my scotch now. It goes surprisingly well with vanilla ice cream.

Updayte Tyme

Hello, Internet.

So…what’s new? Cool. What? Me? Oh, you know, same old same.

I saw Green Day at the secret show in Costa Mesa a few weeks ago. That is probably the most important thing I have done as of late. I don’t know how my friends and I managed to get six tickets to see Green Day at a 250 person venue…I guess the stars aligned. I hear people traveled from as far away as Sweden trying to get in with no luck. Dang. I wish I had pictures to share with you, but there was a strict policy in place pertaining to cameras! I got a chance to briefly chat with Billie and Jason White. I also tried to buy Mike a beer…but he was working on a bottle of water. Don’t worry, he switched to beer eventually.

They played their upcoming album in its entirety. I can hardly wait. It was fantastic. It is my belief that Green Day fans of all ages will be pleased.

Anyway…for the six of you that are eagerly awaiting the release of my acoustic album, you’ll be glad to know we are very close. In fact, I’m going to meet with producer extraordinaire Jason Decell (Spankadillo Productions) this coming Thursday to work on the finishing touches.

Tonight I am going to Seven Grand for my friend Chris’s birthday. It should be a hoot.

How’s that for an update!?

Disaster

Jack Anthony - Disaster

I know, I know. I’m supposed to be talking about the new album, and here I am talking about something we did nearly a decade ago. I promise I’m still working on the new album. I even bought a little keyboard, okay!?

Anyway, Disaster was an album I did with Seth in January of 2003 (I think). It was the first ever Jack Anthony project, and it shows. It never had any formal release or any type of digital distribution other than selling a few copies on Cafepress. Today, it has ceased to exist. You might be able to find a couple tracks available for streaming online but that’s about it. So, I decided that I would help out the 3 or 4 of you out there who are looking for it and just make it available here, for free.

Track list:

      1. Your Stupid World
      2. Six Minutes
      3. Misfortune Cookie
      4. Firewall
      5. Falling Smile
      6. Movies ‘Til Dawn
      7. Somedays
      8. Beds (Featuring backup vocals by David Miller!)
      9. Too Late For Me
      10. Disaster
      11. Honey Roasted Peanuts
      12. I’m So Dumb
      13. Huckleberry
      14. Wandering

It also contains the secret song, called “Secret Song.” I even made it a separate track so you don’t have to deal with all that waiting/fast-forwarding BS.

Ever heard of the Traveling Wilburys? They were a supergroup originally consisting of Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne. For the longest time I had no idea what the band name meant, I just knew it sounded cool. Anyway, recently I learned that when they would screw up in the studio, if it was something minor, someone would be like “It’s cool, we’ll bury it in the mix.” This is where “Wilburys” came from. It made me feel a lot better about the multiple things I have screwed up in recordings over the years. Now if I could only get better at burying them!

Only one track from Disaster had the honor of being immortalized in music video form: Huckleberry. Why? Cause it was the shortest song and we were using an hourly rehearsal studio to film it in!

Totally different lineup back then. That’s Regina Biondo on the bass and Ruben Reitor on the drums (who also directed/edited the video). I hope you enjoyed my bleached hair and sparkly ass strap. Oh, and if you look closely, you might see future band member Ryan Lai pretending like he knows how to play the drums (it’s hard for a drummer to drum and direct a music video at the same time). Check around 1:15.

Okay, back to trying to pretend like I know how to play the keyboard to work on the new album.

Rockstar Stuff

So, a site called BandPromo.me posted this interesting infographic that sheds some light on some band-related statistics. Check it out here.

Makes me want to start a new band so I can use that cool top keyword cloud thing at the bottom to come up with a badass name.

How the hell is the singer the “biggest ass”? Obviously it would have to be the keyboard player.

BRB starting wedding band.

Preview of the New Album

Okay, okay, in an effort to stop you all from rioting, I have decided to release a sample from the new acoustic album. It’s not a full song, but it should be enough to get you excited. Check it out here.

Whaddya think?
